Mrs. Bettina Johnson

I love being one of the School Counselors here at Drayton Mills Elementary! I have my Masters in Counselor Education from The Citadel and am certified K-8th grade. This is my fifth year working in an elementary school, and I really enjoy watching the students grow each year! Ms. Watson is my co-counselor, and we loop up with our students, so I will be your child's counselor each year they are at Drayton Mills. This year I am working with our 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students.

All students receive counseling instruction in the classroom. This year, all Spartanburg District 7 schools are utilizing the Second Step curriculum, so students are learning skills including active listening, identifying feelings, showing empathy, resolving conflicts, and working together on a weekly basis. Ask your student what they have learned with my puppets Puppy & Snail, they always bring laughter into the classroom! I also work with students in small group settings, targeting situations that multiple students are experiencing at school or at home. These groups not only develop student's skills, they also help build friendships throughout the grade level. Students can recieve individual solution focused brief counseling with me based on student, parent, or teacher requests. If you would like your student to recieve long term counseling I can recommend therapists in the area. I work closely with our school psychologist, district social worker, and many community partners.
