PSS Clubs

  • **At this time - all clubs and after-school activities are postponed until further notice.  As soon as we are able, we will re-start our clubs to make sure our PSS students have an outstanding year.

     

    The teachers and staff of Pine Street School work hard to offer our students many options for ways to be involved at school and make a difference in our local community. The following is a list of the various clubs and organizations we sponsor and support.


    Student Council


    Our student council serves as “The voice of the students,” and is a service-oriented organization open to fourth and fifth-grade students. Our student council members are active supporters of The Spartanburg Humane Society, Mobile Meals, The Second Presbyterian Soup Kitchen, Relay for Life, and many other community projects. Students also give their time and talents to various school beautification projects as well as running our school store.

    • When:  Meetings are generally on Tuesdays - 2:35 to 3:00

    Walking Club


    The Pine Street School Walking Club is designed for children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. The program offers an opportunity to meet once a week with fellow classmates to increase fitness awareness, build self-esteem, self-discipline and good fellowship. The club meets every Wednesday from 2:30 - 3:00 in the gym and we walk on the school track. Each week our goal is to walk 1 mile and to encourage others to do the same. Come join us on Wednesdays for fitness and fun!

    • What:  Walking to gain mileage and health
    • When:  Wednesdays after school - 2:35 to 3:00
    • Where:  PSS Gym (We walk INSIDE if the weather is "bad")

    Walking and Wheeling Wednesdays - W3


    Our W3 program was started in 2009 as part of the Safe Routes To School grant money we received from the state transportation department. This wildly successful program has made a huge impact on our students and parents. Students are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes from home or any of our “Park and Walk” sites. Bus riders may participate by taking one lap around the track after they finish breakfast. Prizes are awarded each week as participants register in the Boyd St. lobby - - Students must sign in and still get to class on time...Please plan ahead!

    • Who:  ALL PSS Students
    • What:  Walk to School on specific Wednesdays and sign-in - in the Boyd Street Lobby (Parents CAN come into the lobby for W3 if your student needs help)
    • When:  Most Wednesdays from October to April - See Friday Forecast for weekly information
    • Where:  Sign in when you get to school in the Boyd Street Lobby - - Students must sign in and still get to class on time!

    Archery Club

    Archery Club is for 3rd-5th graders. The club meets on Mondays for returning club members, and on Tuesdays for new club members.  The club is limited to 20 participants each day. It will begin the week of Oct. 14th and conclude the last week of February with a tournament against Drayton Mills.

    Kids Inc.

    Kids, Inc. is a chorus opportunity for second and third-grade students. We meet weekly on Tuesdays at 7:10 am. Sign-ups take place at the beginning of each year. Being a member of Kids, Inc. is a year-long commitment in which we perform for several programs, including Veteran’s Day, Christmas, the Black History Program, and the School Play.

    PSS Singers

    The Pine Street Singers is our school chorus for fourth and fifth grades. This group will sing at various events at school as well as in the community. This choir meets on Thursday mornings from 7:10 to 7:40. Students will have a solid – and fun – choral experience that, hopefully, will instill a love of performing and singing in your student that lasts a lifetime!

    Dance Ensemble


    Dance Ensemble is a group made up of students in Grades 4 and 5th who are interested in additional performance opportunities outside of the weekly in-school dance class. The students audition in the fall and participate in weekly, hour-long modern dance technique classes. The students are often invited to perform at special events both on and off-campus.

    Good News Club


    Currently, over 3,400 weekly school-related Good News Clubs are held across the nation, reaching more than 119,000 students each week. Whether meeting off-campus during school hours or on campus after school, these clubs provide the opportunity for children in the public schools to hear the Gospel and learn the truth from God’s Word.

    • What:  Good News with our friends at Morningside Baptist Church

    • Where:  Room 53 (Orchestra/Drama Classroom)


    Girls On The Run

    Pine Street School is proud to participate in this award-winning national program!!!  Visit the GOTR website here to learn more about the program  Email Lynnell Lawson if you have specific questions about the PSS program.  

    • Who:  Girls in Grades 3-5 (space is limited!)
    • What:  Running as well at Health/Wellness geared toward girls
    • When:  Mondays and Wednesdays 2:35 - 3:15
    • Where:  Room 110 - Mrs. Lawson's Classroom

    PSS Pantherettes

    The Pine Street Pantherettes are a cheerleading group for grades K-5th grade. They perform 3 times a year at different events around Spartanburg. The goal of the Pantherettes is to promote school spirit, increase self-confidence, and learn basic cheer techniques. There is a fee associated with this club.     • What:  Cheerleading

    Art Club

    Art club is set up for students who want to explore visual art and build on what we learn in class. We will work with drawing, painting, and sculpture. The members of the art club will also help with various special projects throughout the year connected to the school play and school beautification.

    PSS School Play

    The play for the 2022 - 2023  school year is going to be Moana Jr.  The show dates are March 28th and March 30th.  Tickets will be available for purchase both online and in person. 

    All students at Pine Street Elementary are invited to be a part of the play.

    • Kindergarten and First Graders perform a song of their own on one of the show dates (both shows for one date)
    • Second and Third Graders involved in Kids, Inc. are in the chorus for the play.  (all 4 performances)
    • Students in Third through Fifth Grade are invited to audition for specific speaking/ singing roles; however, any student who auditions will have a part in the play. (All 4 performances)

    Auditions will take place online in October, and callbacks will be soon after.

    Daily rehearsals will be both before and after school.  Rehearsals will begin in January. A Production/Costume fee of $35 will be collected for all students who choose to participate in the play.

    PINE STREET FACULTY BOOK CLUBS


    The faculty book clubs or study groups are designed for teachers to read professional books (of their choosing) and discuss them in small groups 2 to 4 times per year. Many of the books center around interests that the teachers indicated from surveys and are also chosen based on recommendations from teachers. The purpose of the clubs is to grow professionally and give teachers across grade levels an opportunity to share ideas and work cooperatively to enhance student learning. Susan Gilstrap
