Piedmont Region III Science Fair Rules, Regulations and Guidelines

  • The Piedmont Region III Science Fair will be Virtual for 2021!

    Rotary ISEF

    • Due to COVID restrictions, students may choose to participate in the 2021 Piedmont Region III Science Fair as an independent project. Students will need to work independently and there will be no school based coordinator to assist. Students are highly encouraged to select a topic of interest, develop a testable question, and design/carry-out an investigation to answer the question.  Guidelines and further information are provided at:https://www.uscupstate.edu/about-the-university/community/youth/piedmont-regional-science-fair/
    • The science fair is open to all students - traditional in-person and virtual - in grades 1 -12.
    • Students can begin selecting their topics and designing their investigations now.  The rules wizard https://ruleswizard.societyforscience.org/ has been designed as a first step to help students determine what forms and approvals are necessary before beginning a science fair project.

    • The rules and overall format of science fair projects will remain the same as past fairs.  However, posters/boards will be turned in virtually. Students need to create their poster/board with this PowerPoint Template (Science Fair Template). The font should not be any smaller than 24 point (Arial). These virtual boards will have all the components of a tri-fold board used in a traditional science fair.

    • Online registration is February 22 – 26. All projects must be submitted by 5pm on February 26, 2021. High School students will also submit digital boards to allow judges time to review before Zoom interviews on Tuesday, March 2.
    • An awards ceremony is scheduled for March 20, 2021.

The Piedmont Region III Science Fair is hosted annually by USC Upstate. The main sponsor of the Piedmont Region III Science Fair is the Rotary Club of Spartanburg.  This fair is an ISEF-affiliated fair and serves students from grades 1-12 in the South Carolina counties of Chester, Cherokee, Lancaster, Spartanburg, Union, and York.
