Reading Recovery is a short-term program designed to bring a child up to the classroom average in reading and writing. First grade students that participate in Reading Recovery at EP Todd recieve one-on-one intervention for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. We focus on letter/sound recognition, hearing and recording sounds in words, vocabulary (in reading and writing), concepts of print, increasing reading levels at a quick pace, all while working on comprehension and fluency. The Reading Recovery program is in addition to the classroom instruction that they are recieving.
Reading Recovery teachers have the important job of supporting the students’ development of their self-extending system to be successful in their classroom.
