Spartanburg High School's "Norse News" Wins First Place for District 7 Diversity and Inclusion Initiative Article
An article introducing District Seven's Diversity and Inclusion initiative to the Spartanburg High School community, written by student Clara Maultsby for the "Norse News," was awarded first place in the news category by the South Carolina Scholastic Press Association's Fall Excellence in Scholastic News Awards.
Two Spartanburg High School students, Kaitlyn Metz and Maxwell Booker, attended the Racial Equity Index youth training session in fall 2019.
September 15 - October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month, and District 7 took this special opportunity to celebrate and learn more about the Latinx culture represented across our schools and community. On our website and social media pages, we shared spotlights of local and national Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our society. Within our schools, we celebrated and learned about Latinx culture in order to deepen our connections as a community that values diversity and inclusion. In September 2019, we welcomed members of the Spartanburg Hispanic Alliance to our monthly principals meeting to seek their guidance on meaningful ways to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month and on how we can better work together going forward to understand and honor Latinx culture.
