Welcome to the District 7 website. If you’re new to Spartanburg and looking for information about our schools, we hope this will be your go-to resource. Our District and school websites reflect the dynamic spirit of D7 and the many initiatives that support our efforts to inspire and equip our students for meaningful lives of leadership and service.
My name is Jeff Stevens and I am honored to serve in the role of Superintendent for Spartanburg School District Seven. In my third year as superintendent, I vow to continue to work together with our students, parents, staff and community renewing the spirit of tradition, excellence, and innovation that has long been a hallmark of this district.
I am a proud product of District 7, having graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1985. I went on to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees from Western Carolina University, Furman University and Converse College. I worked in lockstep with former Superintendent Russell Booker during my role as Chief Operations Officer for District 7 and, prior to that, as principal of Spartanburg High School. Our shared vision for our district and for Spartanburg will continue to play a major role in my leadership as superintendent.
Our theme this year is “I BELONG in 7.” There is a place for every individual, every ability, every dream, every background, and every perspective in District 7. We want your family to feel welcomed and supported, and we want your child to discover and develop their unique interests and abilities. Through our many programs and opportunities, every D7 student will find a place to shine.
Our leadership teams have worked hard throughout the summer to prepare for this coming school year. District 7 will continue to focus on four key priority areas that were established last year. During 2022-2023, our faculty and staff will take additional steps towards full implementation of these initiatives:
- Fountas & Pinnell’s Literacy Classroom includes leveled literacy intervention and provides daily, intensive, small group instruction to supplement classroom teaching. F&P is designed to turn struggling readers into successful readers.
- i-Ready is a comprehensive assessment and instruction program that provides teachers with resources they need for student success. i-Ready connects diagnostic data and personalized instruction, making it easier for differentiated instruction.
- Instructional Framework - A research-based model for creating a well-designed, well-delivered lesson every day in every classroom, the District 7 Instructional Framework also provides a common language around proven instructional practices for all teachers, instructional staff and administration. Effective implementation will help ensure quality instruction at all levels of our system.
- Student and Staff Well Being – To ensure our students are successful, District 7 will promote skills and attitudes that help students develop a healthy sense of self, manage emotions and maintain positive relationships.
Last year, we expanded our instructional and student services leadership teams at both the school and district levels to support these strategic initiatives. Our District 7 family embraces our focus areas with a shared sense of hope, determination, resilience, and heart that enables us to fulfill our mission of inspiring and equipping students for meaningful lives of leadership and service as world citizens.
As we look to the 2022-2023 school year and beyond, Spartanburg School District 7 strives to lead with excellence among districts in the Southeast and affirms our commitment to giving students a competitive edge through exceptional instruction and world-class learning facilities. At the beginning of this school year, I issued a challenge to every D7 employee to bring joy to their work this year – to bring joy to the lives of our students and our colleagues. Following two challenging years, let’s all focus on creating JOY for one another in our D7 family. I hope you will feel that JOY as it lifts and carries you through your best school year yet.
