Read to Succeed

  • Child reading

The Read to Succeed Act is a comprehensive reading reform policy, which went into effect for the 2017-2018 school year.  This law requires teachers to receive additional training to be more proficient teachers of reading, and puts into place a requirement for third grade students to meet minimal levels of reading in order to be promoted to 4th grade. Students who are reading severely below grade level, as shown through the SCREADY test, will be required to attend the Summer Reading Camp to advance their reading skills, offered by the district at no charge unless they qualify for a good cause exemption.
