Ms. Demery Trantham

Demery Trantham is a recent graduate of Columbia College’s Dance Education program. After completing her senior year of college amid the COVID-19 pandemic, she is currently a teaching dance at Carver Middle School and Arts in Motion in Spartanburg, SC. Trantham was raised in Greer, South Carolina where she started dancing in a local studio at age twelve. At Southern Dance Connection, she won the award of “Dancer of the Year” and received a dance scholarship from her alumni studio Ignite Dance Company to support her dream of collegiate dance study. Trantham has trained in genres including contemporary, modern, jazz, lyrical, clogging, and hip-hop. She has also experienced many other different dance genres along her dance journey including contact improvisation, African, musical theater, jazz funk, Gaga, Countertechnique, and ballet. Trantham has danced in the 87th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and performed in the Sugar Bowl Halftime Finale in 2012. While studying collegiate dance, she has received the CCDanceLab’s Improviser of the Year award of 2017-2018 and has recently received the Debi Turbeville Scholarship Fund for the academic year of 2018-2019. Over the summer of 2019, Trantham traveled to Sorrento, Italy for the 2019 Staibdance Summer Intensive and performed in Sant'Agata Square. Ms. Trantham is currently a professional dancer with a Columbia, SC based contemporary company called Yuhas & Dancers. Demery was one of the original members of Yuhas & Dancers and has traveled with the company for 3 years and joins them again for their 4th season. In the coming academic year, she plans to share her love and knowledge of dance with students of various ages and continue to feed herself creatively through her work in Yuhas & Dancers. Demery is thrilled to be joining the Carver Middle family this year!
