Master of Education in Applied Learning and Instruction Bachelor of Arts in Instrumental Music Education

Mr. Gary Stoupe

I am excited to be a member of the Mary H. Wright community and look forward to serving our students in all of their musical endeavors!  I am a passionate music educator who loves to offer rewarding experiences through music that allow students to explore their creative genius! I have taught several state and regional championship bands and drumlines and have traveled with students to allow them once in a lifetime performance opportunities in music!

Students at Mary H Wright will perform in a grade level music program at least once each school year.  They also have the opportunity to participate in our after school Spring Musical (November-March) or Chorus (all year). Students use the Quaver Music Curriculum while learning to sing, move, play instruments and have fun in music class!  We also learn the history of music, famous performers and composers, and many different styles of music.  Students in 3rd-5th grade will learn how to read and write music!

Outside of my classroom, I love spending time at home gardening, woodworking, playing video games and relaxing with my Pomeranian, Priscilla.  I have four cats who tolerate me, a Koi Pond full of beautiful fish and three happy beehives full of bees who make delicious honey!   I work as a professional musician and perform with several groups on my primary instrument, the Oboe.  Outside of Mary H. Wright, I love working with the Spartanburg High School Marching Band during the Fall!

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina: Bachelor of Music with emphasis in Instrumental Music Education.  I completed my master's degree at the University of South Carolina Upstate: Master of Education in Applied Learning and Instruction, with emphasis in Gifted and Talented Learners.  I am now in the process of earning my doctoral degree from Converse College: Professional Leadership.  I would welcome the opportunity to share all the different ways your children could use music to support their college and career goals!
