A Message from Mr. Duvall

  •

Jonathan Duvall has been promoted to Principal of Jesse Boyd Elementary School. He has spent his entire career at Boyd as a teacher (11 years) and Assistant Principal (6 years).

“Jonathan has a true passioJ Duvall n for teaching and learning, and even a greater passion for Jesse Boyd Elementary School. It is his home away from home. He is well respected in the community and among his peers. Jonathan possesses all the qualities of a great leader and will enable Boyd to continue to achieve excellence. We are excited to have him join our leadership team in this new role,” commented Jeff Stevens.

At Jesse Boyd, we prepare students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and one another and have the capacity to participate in the world around them by building their world class skills. Our curriculum respects students’ developing ideas about how the world works and encourages them to question, consider and refine their understanding of the social and natural world. Teachers use an inquiry based model of teaching reading and writing workshop incorporating science, math, and social studies. Additionally, teachers nurture independent learning, critical thinking, as well as creativity and because we know that learning is social, our students spend a great deal of time working collaboratively with peers to build communication, problem solving, and team working skills. All students have access to technology in their classrooms through classroom computers and smart centers as well as class I-pads, Active Panels for each class, and each child in grades 2-5 has his own MACBook Air used for instruction, communication, and learning.

The IBPYP curriculum is unapologetic in efforts to teaching our students to take action based on their learning. In doing so, wrapped in our curriculum are the teachings of the IB learner profile. These characteristics, which mirror great leaders of our world, are taught through literature, science and history lessons as well as through related classes, guidance class and through our numerous before and after school programs. Those attributes are: principled, risk-takers, caring, knowledgeable, balanced, communicators, inquirers, reflective, thinkers, and open-mindedness.

Our SIC (School Improvement Council) worked on projects such as our providing science volunteers, school beautification, school safety, and our Safe Routes to School Initiative. Our PTSO helped plan and fund events such as Spooktacular, Boosterthon, and other fundraisers to support classroom and school activities. JBE is a leader in offering activities for students. Our students have numerous opportunities to learn about the world around them from our artist in residence program, MUSE machine, Student celebrations, School Theme Perseverance Projects, Club Fridays, Exhibition, and a host of clubs where our students can develop mentally, emotionally, physically and socially. Our students are caring world citizens who have self-initiated projects to help those in need through many hours of service and numerous dollars raised for local, national, and world charity programs. Helping our students understand that they can be the change they want to see in this world is at the heart of what we do and will continue to do at Jesse Boyd Elementary School.

There's No Place We’d Rather Be than JBE.
