The Legacy of Pine Street School

Etched in the 1928 cornerstone of Pine Street School is a verse from Psalm 144.  The words inscribed are a blessing for the health and wellbeing of the children within and a testament to the decades of leaders who have committed themselves to the education of Spartanburg’s youngest citizens. Built in the last boom of the Roaring Twenties, as Herbert Hoover was elected President and Penicillin was discovered, this iconic Spartanburg building has been in operation for nearly a century. Today, this beloved urban school stands as an enduring source of community pride and is included in The National Register of Historic Places.
