SHS CyberVikings Showcase Talents in Information Security
Meet tomorrow’s superstars – our up and coming cybersecurity pros!
As you may know, D7 is a member of the prestigious League of Innovative schools – one of only 102 school districts in the nation invited to join this elite organization. Three years ago, the League prompted D7 to design a curriculum at SHS to offer students with an interest in technology the fundamentals of cybersecurity and coding. Out of that initiative, and under the tenacious leadership of Dennis Roberts, was born the CyberVikings - a group of students who come together to explore the basics of securing online and hardwired systems.
This past weekend two CyberViking teams and a newly formed team from McCracken Middle, the CyberEagles, under the coaching wing of Lesa McGarity, competed in the semifinal round of the CyberPatriot competition, a nationwide competition where students are discovering what it means to be involved with cyber security.
We congratulate the CyberVikings team of Michael Hall, Jonathan Tate, and Caleb Thompson for placing 2nd in the state, Skylar Hawkins, Matthew Parker, Brian Sanders on the 4th place finish in their tier, and kudos to CyberEagles Sean Foote, James Howlett, Dexter Lehman, and Spencer Waugh on making the semifinals.
