District 7 is often recognized nationally for its progressive 1:1 technology initiative called, 7Ignites. In 2013, the blended-learning program put mobile devices in the hands of every student in the District, with the intent of creating classroom environments where technology consistently supports 21st-century skills. In 2015, Apple applauded the District for harnessing the power of technology to provide exemplary learning environments. Now, the multi-national company has named a D7 elementary school for being a center of leadership and educational excellence.
Representatives from Apple announced in November that Jesse Boyd Elementary is one of 177 schools to be recognized as an Apple Distinguished School. The commendation salutes the school's technology-rich environment and its continuous innovation plans to support integrated learning.
In support of the team at JBE, Superintendent Dr. Russell Booker said, "This high praise from Apple, on top of the award that JBE earned earlier this year from Common Sense Media, is a direct result of dedicated teachers who are committed to inspiring and equipping our students for meaningful lives of leadership and service." Booker noted that officials from Apple will honor JBE in the coming months.
