Dear Parents of Second Graders,

To help identify potential students for academically gifted and talented programs, the South Carolina Department of Education requires screening of aptitude, achievement in reading comprehension, and achievement in mathematics concepts and problem solving. These assessments for gifted and talented screening are administered in the fall of each year to students in grade two.

Together with other second graders, your child will be participating in this fall screening during October 5-27. The schedule for testing is shown below so that you can be sure your child is present at school each day and gets a good night’s sleep before each day of testing.

Monday, October 5: Cognitive Abilities Test (Oral Vocabulary and Verbal Reasoning)

Tuesday, October 6: Cognitive Abilities Test (Relational and Quantitative Concepts)

Wednesday, October 7: Cognitive Abilities Test (Figure Classification and Matrices)

Tuesday, October 20: Iowa Test of Basic Skills (Reading)

Wednesday, October 21: Iowa Test of Basic Skills (Math Concepts and Problems)
