enroll for kindergarten

The 2026–2027 school year is just around the corner, and Spartanburg School District 7 is ready to welcome a new class of kindergarten students. Registration for 3K, 4K and 5K is now open and we want to be sure families have all the information they need to take this important first step with confidence. Below you’ll find key dates, details, and next steps to help guide you through the enrollment process.

Please help spread the word—we're thrilled to welcome new families and students to D7!

3K Program Details

D7 offers a free, full-day, need-based 3K program at Mary H. Wright Elementary and Cleveland Academy of Leadership (note: Cleveland’s classes are housed at the neighboring The Franklin School but families should still enroll through Cleveland). These programs are supported by a Full-Service Community Schools grant, in partnership with Spartanburg Academic Movement. Because class sizes are limited, enrollment is determined through an application and screening process designed to identify children with financial need and/or academic risk factors. Priority is given to students residing within the schools' attendance zones. Applications are due by May 22 for screening and acceptance decisions by May 28 (if space remains, additional applications will be processed in August). Find enrollment info for these programs here.

3K is also offered through our Montessori Program at E.P. Todd School, with tuition charged much like non-public school programs. The Montessori program at E.P. Todd is a half-day program.

The Franklin School also offers some federally funded 3K programs and some private pay programs.

4K Program Details

All D7 elementary schools offer free, full-day, need-based 4K programs. Acceptance follows similar criteria to 3K, prioritizing financial and developmental need through an application and assessment process. Applications are due by May 22 for screening and acceptance decisions by May 28 (if space remains, additional applications will be processed in August). Find enrollment info for these programs here.

Important Note for Current District 7 3K and 4K Students

Families of students currently in D7's 3K program should apply for 4K now. Families of students currently in D7's 4K program will wait until the returning student enrollment period begins after Spring Break (they do not need to complete new student registration).

5K Program Details

Children who will be five years old on or before September 1 of this year must enroll in a public or private 5K program, unless the parent or legal guardian signs a waiver. If a 5K waiver is signed, state law requires the child to enroll in first grade the following year at age 6. Free 5K programs are available at all D7 schools. Find enrollment info for these programs here.

What Families Need to Enroll

Parents can access the required forms online and must bring them, along with the required documentation, to their zoned elementary school to complete the process.
