We continue our implementation of Franklin Covey's The Leader in Me model. This leadership focus enhances the strong academic focus on literacy, math, and science.
We were very optimistic when we started because the Leader in Me is a “whole school transformational model.” It has proven to help produce higher levels of academic achievement, fewer discipline problems, and increased engagement. This model provides students the tools needed to thrive in the 21st century. They are developing skills which include responsibility, leadership, adaptability, communication, creativity, problem solving, and teamwork. The development of these skills has already resulted in improved student achievement because students are becoming more and more prepared to fully take advantage of the curriculum provided.
In 2013, we were recognized by the Covey organization as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School. At that time, there were only 103 Lighthouse schools in the world. As a Franklin Covey Lighthouse School, we continue to build leadership capacity in our students on a daily basis. We see continual evidence of how students view themselves more positively and how their role at school is changing. They are becoming leaders to others and more importantly, leaders in their own lives.
