Yesterday morning, our SHS Teacher Cadets had the wonderful opportunity to serve as guest readers in 4K and 1st grade classrooms at Drayton Mills Elementary School. This visit marked the beginning of their journey exploring the incredible elementary schools in Spartanburg District 7.
The Cadets were warmly welcomed by the staff and students at DMES and thoroughly enjoyed their time reading to the young learners. It was a meaningful experience for both the high school students and the elementary students, who were all smiles as they listened to stories and engaged with their older peers.
This visit is part of an ongoing effort to expose the Teacher Cadets to a wide range of classroom environments across the district. Cadets will head to Pine Street School next to perform puppet shows, followed by a visit to Jesse Boyd Elementary.
These experiences are all part of preparing the Cadets for their field experience which begins in late October to early November. During this immersive phase, each Cadet will be paired with a mentor teacher and work with a classroom daily to truly understand what it means to be an educator.
We are so proud of our future teachers and grateful to Drayton Mills Elementary for being such a welcoming and supportive first stop on our journey. We’re excited for what’s ahead!
